Oplenac Royal and History Tour - 1 day

Discover one of the most famous Serbian royal dynasties - the Karadjordjevic - and hear the story of the first Serbian uprising and revolution against the Ottoman rule, while visiting the place where the Statehood of Serbia was declared.

Departure from Belgrade (usually at 9 am, but it is flexible) to Oplenac and visit to St George's Church (Mausoleum of the Karadjordjevic dynasty), royal vineyards, wine museum and Karadjordje's old house – place from where the first Serbian uprising began.

 St George's Church  known also as Oplenac Church and Oplenac Mausoleum, is the Mausoleum of the Serbian and Yugoslav Royal House of Karadjordjevic located on top of the Hill Oplenac in the town of Topola, Serbia. The Foundation in Oplenac is named after King Peter I of Yugoslavia.

 Apart from the two tombstones inside the church (Karadjordje’s in the southern apse; and King Peter I in the northern apse), there are 26 other members of the Dynasty whose eternal place of rest is in this Mausoleum. Six generations of the Karadjordjevic family have been buried in this church. Near church is  King Peter's house in which today is dinasty museum. 

​Karadjordje's residence (Djordje Petrovic,  leader of the first Serbian uprising, after which the whole dynasty got its name) is also a part of the complex, where one can see famous cannon and other objects of Karadjordje's time.

​A village of Vinča, at the foot of Oplenac was always known for viticulture and winemaking. This village hides wineries where sunny slopes, a rich structure of the soil, favorable winds and mild climate represent a natural gift which is translated to the top quality wines. We are going to visit Aleksandrovic winery.

Orasac is the place where, in Maricevica Gully in 1804, Karadjordje was chosen leader of the First Serbian Insurrection against the Ottoman rule, thus becoming one of the sacred places of freedom in the history of Serbian people. A church, a school and a memorial drinking-water fountain were set up in the memory of the agreement among the rebels to elect Karadjordje, their leader, and of the onset of their rebellion.

​We finish this tour with visit to authentic ethno tavern with local specialties of the Šumadia region.
