Christogram monument devoted to Constantine The Great
The monument devoted to the most significant Roman emperor born in Nis is symbolically erected at the beginning of the bridge that leads to the fortress. The monument is placed on June 3rd , 2012. On the City Patron St emperor Constantine and empress Hellen’s day , and thus Nis became one of the cities of exquisite historical importance for the development of Christian religion( along with Karnuntum in Austria and Izmir in Turkey, that already have the identical monuments).
The monument presents the image of emperor Constantine and christogram , that, according to the legend, appeared in the sky before the battle at Milvian bridge in 312, with Jesus’ words: ’’ With this sign you shall win’’ ( In hoc signo vinces).
The author of the idea is the director of Art Karnuntum Foundation Pierro Bordin, and the monument itself was sculpted by Mile Kocev.
